Openlink physical and financial positions need reconciliation

ION says Openlink covers cash, treasury, risk, physical commodities, FX, derivatives, procurement, forecasting, and accounting. A consolidated view is useful only when each physical obligation, market exposure, hedge, valuation, settlement, and accounting record can be traced without being collapsed into one position.

Keep the physical obligation visible

Start with the commercial obligation: legal entity, counterparty, commodity, grade, location, quantity, unit, delivery window, pricing formula, optionality, title transfer, payment terms, and contract version. Then identify which portions are forecast, nominated, lifted or delivered, invoiced, paid, cancelled, or disputed. A system may display an enterprise-wide commodity position, but treasury should be able to return from that number to the physical contracts and operational events that created it.

Do not net away differences that still require action. Forecast demand is not a firm purchase. A scheduled volume is not delivered inventory. A provisional price is not a final invoice. Conversion factors, quality adjustments, storage, freight, and location differentials can change the economic exposure. Preserve the source, observation time, unit conversion, and accountable owner for each adjustment so procurement, operations, treasury, risk, and accounting are not looking at similarly named but different quantities.

Reconcile each hedge to the exposure it addresses

For every derivative or FX trade, retain the policy authority, exposure identifier, hedge objective, approved instrument, trade date, quantity, price, currency, maturity, counterparty, confirmation, valuation source, and settlement route. Show which physical exposure or forecast layer it addresses and how over-hedges, under-hedges, timing mismatches, and basis risk are measured. A hedge may reduce one risk while leaving volume, location, quality, currency, credit, or liquidity risk open.

Run the reconciliation through changes: a reduced purchase quantity, delayed delivery, specification failure, contract repricing, rolled derivative, novation, partial settlement, disputed invoice, or corrected market curve. The record should show the prior state, new state, reviewer, action, and residual exposure. Decision-support output can help analysts focus, but it does not set risk appetite, authorize a trade, confirm a counterparty agreement, or prove accounting treatment.

Close valuation, cash, and accounting separately

At period end, reconcile physical accruals and invoices, derivative confirmations and valuations, collateral or margin, forecast and settled cash, general-ledger postings, and hedge-accounting evidence where applicable. Declare the market-data cutoff, curve and model versions, currency rates, legal-entity scope, and treatment of disputed or estimated items. Differences need owners and aging; an enterprise view should not hide them behind an aggregate net exposure.

Treasury Operations Review reviewed ION's registered Openlink page on September 16, 2026. It supports the provider's current positioning only. It does not establish a customer's contract population, physical quantity, market data, model, hedge relationship, trade authority, counterparty confirmation, settlement, cash position, accounting conclusion, compliance, or outcome. No attributable post-cutoff material news change was verified.

Enterprise buyer test

Translate this change into the exact population, record type, workflow stage, decision owner, effective date, and evidence that could be affected. Ask current or prospective providers to demonstrate the named workflow with representative data and an exception—not a polished feature tour. Record what official documentation establishes, what a provider states, what the team observes, and what remains unresolved.

A defensible review also identifies the dependency outside the product. Authority interpretation, policy configuration, data quality, integrations, human judgment, approval rights, release governance, training, and retained evidence may remain customer or service responsibilities. The evaluation should preserve those boundaries instead of treating a technology claim as the complete operating model.

What we will watch next

Treasury Operations Review will watch the named source and affected market records for later evidence that changes status, scope, availability, implementation timing, workflow consequence, or the limits of the initial report. A later announcement does not silently overwrite this dated account; the change ledger preserves the sequence.
